3 Days in Sri Lanka: Colombo, Galle & the South Coast
Duration
3 days
Best for
Weekend escapes, stopovers, and first tastes of the island on a tight clock
Season
Best November–April on the south coast; June–September pick calmer bays
The expressway makes this possible: land, and be inside a 17th-century Dutch fort by dinner. Three days of ramparts, palm-lined beaches, and one great city evening — no long drives, no early logistics.
Day by day
Day 1
Arrive → Galle Fort
Take the southern expressway straight from the airport to Galle (about 2 hours). Walk the full circuit of the ramparts at golden hour, then dinner inside the fort's lantern-lit streets.
Day 2
Mirissa & Unawatuna beaches
Whale watching at dawn in season (November–April), beach time at Mirissa and the Coconut Tree Hill viewpoint, then a sunset swim at Unawatuna or Jungle Beach on the way back.
Day 3
Colombo, depart
Expressway up to Colombo for a half day: the National Museum or Gangaramaya Temple, lunch in a local kade or a modern Sri Lankan kitchen, Galle Face Green for the evening, then the airport.
Route tips
- This is the lowest-logistics route on the island — one hotel base in or near Galle Fort works for both nights.
- Book expressway transfers ahead through your accommodation or a verified LankaTrip driver.
- Three days is tight but real: you'll see a UNESCO fort, two of the island's best beaches, and the capital.
